STEVEN D. HILBERG

Steve Hilberg retired as MRCC Director October 2011 after serving more than 13 years in that position. He is currently works part-time on a number of climate services and applied climate projects for the MRCC. Steve is also very active with the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail, and Snow (CoCoRaHS) network and serves as the Illinois Coordinator.  

He began his 36-year career with the Illinois State Water Survey as a student working on the METROMEX project from 1971-1973. Prior to being named director of the MRCC in 1998 he was assistant Illinois State Climatologist for two years, and before that he was responsible for extension services at the Water Survey. Steve's interest in climate services grew from his background in operational meteorology, broadcast meteorology (AMS Seal of Approval for Radio Weathercasting, currently inactive), and extension services.
